Controls
The Gehl 650 articulated charger features easy-to-use controls on your fingertips. Also the less accustomed operator will feel comfortable operating these chargers.
- The multifunction joystick lever controls the travel arm, bucket, float, travel direction, differential lock and auxiliary hydraulic functions.
- The slow-forward pedal allows operators to vary the forward speed while maintaining a fixed engine speed, to optimally run the accessories while allowing precise control.
- The engine speed can be conveniently controlled in two ways: (1) with the right foot throttle or (2) with the convenient hand throttle, which also allows you to control the controlled forward speed of the engine speed.
- The differential lock button on the control lever increases traction to achieve an effective coupling of 100% of the axles.
- The 2-speed hydrostatic transmission can be activated “on the fly” with a switch on the joystick.

Maneuverability
Enter the narrowest spaces with ease. The 650 goes anywhere and does almost everything.
- A high strength joint offers 45 degree rotation angles in each direction and provides optimal maneuverability with a closed turning radius. The articulated steering has a minimal effect on the grass and ground surfaces and extends the life of the tires.
- The chassis oscillates 10 degrees in each direction, for 20 degrees of total oscillation, to maintain traction by keeping the wheels on the ground in uneven terrain.
- The tail follows where the front cables provide excellent maneuverability. The bucket and tires follow a constant turning radius, so the rear of the loader follows the path of the front tires.
- The narrow width of the machine allows access to narrow and confined spaces that most sliding loaders with comparable operational capabilities cannot access.
- The large ground clearance allows loaders to easily pass over objects in the work path.
Arms
The lifting arm on the 650 is designed for maximum strength, excellent visibility and fast cycle times.
- The linkage is embedded in the lift arm at heights of total lift for protection when poured into trucks / trailers and provides excellent forward visibility.
- The linkage design allows the mechanical self-leveling action both up and down.
- Nitro-steel rods in hydraulic cylinders resist abrasion, pitting, scratches and corrosion.
- Excellent tipping angles of the bucket in the middle and upper ranges of the lift path, as well as excellent forward reach in the mid range.

- Two auxiliary hydraulic lines with flat-face couplers feed a variety of tools and facilitate tool changes.
- The hydraulic hoses are located inside the lifting arms, keeping them out of the “damage zone” of the loader joint during lifting and unloading operations.
- The buoyancy characteristics of the lift arm and the bucket allow the hoist arm to “float” for slight scraping or leveling actions backwards. The bucket float is a special feature that adds control and greater operator flexibility to operate certain accessories with a single float.
Maintenance
Reduced downtime is possible thanks to intelligent engineering and advanced design in the 650.
- Perform daily service checks with ease through the rear engine cover, which provides access to the engine, hydraulic reservoir filler and filter, radiator and more.
- The hydraulic components are provided with diagnostic test ports to facilitate access when necessary.
- The LCD screen has menu screens with light indicators for electrical diagnostic verification.
